Augustana University says its School of Music will present its 89th annual Christmas Vespers, “A Journey to Light,” in three services at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls on Dec. 4 and 5.
According to the university’s announcement, the first service is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m.; the two Saturday, Dec. 5, services are set for 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The School of Music is organizing the event with Augustana’s Office of Faith & Spiritual Life, the university said.
The program will feature Augustana’s choirs, Chamber Orchestra and Brass Choir, as well as Artist-in-Residence Matthew Whitaker, the university said. After each performance, attendees can have holiday cookies and hot cocoa, with postlude music by the Augustana Trombone Choir, according to the announcement.
Augustana said the Dec. 5 service at 7:30 p.m. will also be livestreamed on its YouTube channel. The announcement directs people seeking information or tickets to augie.edu/vespers; it does not state ticket prices.
The university says the tradition began Dec. 18, 1938, with a service of Yuletide music presented by the Augustana Choir in the campus gymnasium and chapel.
