The City of Sioux Falls says a lane closure, a public open house and a street reopening are among the local street-construction updates announced Oct. 21.
Beginning Thursday, Oct. 22, the southbound lane of West Burnside Street will close between Elmwood and Sigler avenues for concrete repairs, the city said. Southbound traffic will shift toward the centerline, and the work is expected to take one week, weather permitting, according to the announcement.
The city and the South Dakota Department of Transportation are planning improvements to West Benson Road between Interstate 29 and Westport Avenue, with construction planned to begin in 2027, the city said. An open house is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Room 2510 at the Sanford Pentagon, 2210 W. Pentagon Place, according to the announcement. City, state and design consultant personnel will be available to discuss the project, and there will be no formal presentation, the city said.
The state plans concrete driving-lane, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and traffic-signal improvements within the interchange, while the city plans to reconstruct West Benson Road between the interchange and North Westport Avenue, the announcement said. City plans include two through lanes in each direction, turn lanes, a raised median, sidewalks on both sides, storm drainage and new signals at Westport Avenue and Martindale Road, according to the city. Construction is expected to be substantially complete in fall 2027, with final completion scheduled for summer 2028, weather permitting, the announcement said.
Weber Avenue at Third Street reopened to traffic Tuesday, Oct. 20, the city said. The intersection had been closed since early August for roadway reconstruction ahead of BNSF Railway crossing improvements later this year, and the work included roadway, striping, sidewalk and median improvements, according to the announcement.
