Augustana opened its regular season with a 4-3 overtime win over No. 5 Minnesota Duluth on Friday, Oct. 9, at Midco Arena in Sioux Falls, according to Augustana University Athletics. The department said the victory was the highest-ranked win in the hockey program’s history.
Minnesota Duluth led 2-1 after two periods, but Landon Fandel tied the game in the third and Jacob Fletcher scored 17 seconds later to put Augustana ahead, according to the recap. Zam Plante tied it for Minnesota Duluth with 1:21 left in regulation, sending the game to overtime.
The final score was Augustana 4, Minnesota Duluth 3.
The teams are scheduled to meet again Saturday, Oct. 10, at 6:07 p.m., according to the announcement.
